First timers Ola Aina, Anthony Nwakaeme and Ifeanyi Matthew have been initiated into the Super Eagles.
The three players, for the first time were called up to the Super Eagles for the crucial 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon.
After
the Super Eagles first training session in Uyo on Tuesday, August 29,
the three players were made to stand in front of their teammates to
sing.
In videos shared on Twitter by Super Eagles midfielder John Ogu, it can be seen that the initiation happened during dinner at the team’s Le Méridien Hotel base in Uyo.
Nwakaeme cracked up his new teammates with his attempt to sing a song by 2face. The whole team including captain John Mikel Obi are seen laughing from his performance.
Nwakaeme was invited to the Super Eagles following his good form for Hapoel Be'er Sheva F.C in Israel.
Born
and brought up in England, the Super Eagles players were surprised to
hear Aina announce that he wanted to perform a song by Nigerian pop star
Timaya.
His performance was also funny to his new teammates.
The Chelsea defender on-loan at Hull City is still waiting for FIFA clearance to play for Nigeria having played for England youth sides.
Matthew
stood up and announced that he is dedicating his song to God almighty
which his new teammates responded by calling him ‘man of God’.
“It’s not by my might but by his grace,” the midfielder said.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will play Cameroon first at home in Uyo on Friday, September 1 before a return leg in Yaoundé on Monday, September 4.
