Jewish restaurant attacked hours after Trump declares Jerusalem as capital of Israel

A Jewish restaurant has been targeted in an apparent religious attack after President Donald Trump announced that the United States recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and will move the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
A man with a Palestinian flag yelling "God is great" was detained by police after smashing the windows of a kosher Jewish restaurant in Amsterdam. The violent outburst came one day after Trump's announcement. His decision reversed decades of U.S. foreign policy, angered much of the Muslim world and was widely rejected by Western leaders.
The man who attacked the Jewish restaurant was wearing a black-and-white-checkered headscarf. He smashed several windows of the HaCarmel restaurant before he was pushed to the ground and handcuffed by police. The attack was "an act of revenge, meant to instil fear, and is no less than an act of terror".

The man was captured on photo smashing the windows using a white implement before going into the restaurant and then coming out carrying a Palestinian flag and an Israeli flag. Two police officers initially watched him without intervening before subduing him using pepper spray.
In a photo statement posted on Twitter, police spokesman Leo Dortland said the suspect was a 29-year-old Amsterdam resident with a temporary residency permit. Dortland did not give the suspect’s nationality.

"We are disgusted," the Organization of Jewish Communities in The Netherlands said in a statement addressing the incident.
