Playboy has responded to the criticisms that greeted the magazine as it featured its first transgender playmate. In response, the magazine compared the reactions to its first transgender playmate with the reactions to its first black female playmate years ago.
In 1965, Playboy magazine featured its first black female bunny and a lot of people criticized it and even insisted they will stop buying the magazine. Just last week, the magazine featured the first ever transgender playmate and a lot of reactions trailed it, some of them negative.
Playboy has now shared some of the reactions to the first black female playmate ever, comparing it with the present reactions to the first trans-woman playmate.
"History repeats itself," the magazine captioned it on Twitter.
And on Instagram, it wrote: "In March 1965, we featured Jenny Jackson, our first black Playmate. Many fans revoked their subscription or returned the issue. Many more embraced Jenny Jackson, her beauty, and Playboy’s decision."
