The Police in Katsina have launched a massive manhunt for
two suspected assailants who attacked the residence of former Inspector
General of Police Ibrahim Coomassie on Saturday.
Two armed hoodlums on a motorcycle opened fire on the two policemen stationed at the gate at about 8pm, killing one and injuring another.
Speaking at a press conference, the state commissioner of
Police Besen Dapiya Gwana gave the names of the killed officer as Sgt
Musa Ibrahim attached to 27 Police Mobile Squadron, Katsina while the
injured officer is Cpl Shitu Maikudi who is currently receiving medical
attention.
He said 18 empty shells of expended ammunition were
recovered at the scene and that the command was assiduously making
efforts to arrest the fleeing hoodlums and recover their operational
arms.
“But for the gallantry displayed by the policemen on duty
at the residence of the former inspector general of police, the
suspected hoodlums would have gained entry into the house and wreaked
havoc,” he said.
Meanwhile, Governor Aminu Masari has commiserated with the
former Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Sardaunan Katsina, Alhaji
Ibrahim Commassie over the incident.
In a statement issued by his media aide Abdu Labaran, Masari
described the attack as dastardly, callous and cowardly, vowing that all
those behind the targeted attack would be brought to book.
