The silent feud between Minister of state for Petroleum Products, Ibe
Kachikwu and the Group Managing Director of NNPC, Maikanti Baru, was
put aside today as both men met, exchanged pleasantries and had
discussions at the ongoing Nigerian Economic Summit in Abuja. They had
discussions on the opportunities in the oil sector at the Energy Policy
Committee breakout session at the summit.
Kachikwu and Baru are at loggerheads after the former in a petition
written to President Buhari, accused the latter of insubordination and
awarding contracts without due process. In reaction, Baru in a statement
released yesterday said he is under no obligation to discuss contract
matters with Kachikwu. The presidency is yet to react to the
development.
Last Friday, Kachikwu had a closed-door meeting with President Buhari. He, however, refused to disclose the outcome of the meeting.
