Women of Jemgbagh extraction in Zone B Senatorial District
of Benue State have declared that anyone fighting their son, North
Central Leader of the APC, Senator Dr. George Akume was warring against
God's anointed and would be served the highest degree of shame.
The group whose membership is drawn from widows and less
privileged women from Gboko, Buruku and Tarka Local Governments made
this declaration during a solidarity visit to the Benue North West
Senator in Makurdi.
Stating their reason for the visit, Leader of the group,
Mrs Helen Adugu from Gboko revealed that though they were poor and
neglected by almost all, former First Lady of Benue, Her Excellency, Mrs
Regina Akume, JP picked them from the rubbles of life and has been
taking good care of them, a gesture she described as uncommon.
"If not for Akume Dajoh and his wife, most of us would have
given up on life by now. Some of us have lost our husbands and have
children to fend for while others have but lack the basics of life. The
Akume family has proved to us that God's love still exists and we are
now happy. Whatever affects them is a direct blow to all of us here and
those at home; God will not allow it". The Chairlady informed.
Collaborating the Chairlady's position, Vice Chairlady of
the group, Mrs Comfort Zaki from Tarka and Auditor, Mrs Veronica Mgbaga
from Buruku said like the biblical widow, they have come to pour out the
blessings of their hearts as a group upon Senator Akume and his family
for long life and better opportunities adding "that like Abraham,
whosoever blesses the Senator shall be blessed while those who curse him
shall be cursed by God himself."
They maintained that legs do not move backward but forward
noting it was their desire that Akume should emerge President of Nigeria
someday but while that expectation tarries, he should occupy the Senate
seat for now, warning other sons of Jemgbagh to respect the position of
their mothers and steer clear.
Responding, Senator Akume thanked the women for having hope
in God without giving up on life and for visiting to identify with
them.
He acknowledged that though the entire nation was facing challenges, it was important for all to pray for better days ahead.
On his Senatorial ambition, the former Minority Leader of
the Senate said he was willing to touch more lives and would not
hesitate to run again. He solicited support for the President Muhammadu
Buhari and Governor Samuel Ortom's administrations asking the women to
keep supporting the All Progressives Congress.
