The paramount ruler of the Ijebu people of Ogun State, Oba
Sikiru Kayode Adetona has lauded telecommunications giant, Globacom for
being pivotal to the development of the cultures and traditions that
bind Nigerians together.
The Monarch who also gave kudos to the Chairman of the
company, Dr. Mike Adenuga Jnr. said posterity would remember the
business guru for adding vent to the promotion of tourism through his
company's sponsorships of festivals in the nation.
Oba Adetona said these at the recently concluded Ojude Oba festival which was held in Ijebu Ode on Sunday.
The festival which Globacom has sponsored for eleven years, is an
event during which sons and daughters of Ijebuland converge to pay
homage to the king as well as form alliances for the development of the
land.
Earlier, the Chairman of Globacom in his goodwill address
read by Mr. Folu Aderibigbe had charged Nigerian youths to show
interest in the histories of the different communities that constitute
the nation Nigeria with a view to gaining greater understanding about
their beneficial cultures and traditions. He said this understanding
would advance the unity of the country.
According to him, the theme of this year's celebration,
Ojude Oba: A Rich Heritage For Ijebu Unity confirms that traditions,
cultures and religious beliefs are basic ingredients which have united
peoples and races throughout the history of mankind. He said they also
serve as the superstructure constructed by heroes past to ensure the
continued well being of the people.
“We also wish to appeal to all Nigerians irrespective of
ethnic and religious persuasions to do all within their capabilities to
strengthen that cord of unity that has always bound us together. We owe
the present generation and posterity the responsibility to join forces
with men and women of goodwill to sustain the renewed drive towards the
historical and cultural Renaissance of our country”, Adenuga added.
He opined that the sustained partnership with the Ojude
Oba Festival Committee was reflective of his network's passionate
commitment to being at the forefront of major initiatives to promote
the best of Nigeria's cultures, values, desires and traditions.
"We are proud of our newly-acquired badge of honour as the
biggest corporate promoter of the Arts including celebration of
traditions, cultures and desires of Nigeria and her peoples", he said,
while reiterating its commitment to the continued provision of
world-class voice and data infrastructure that will enable all
Nigerians to communicate seamlessly within the nation and across the
world.
