9 police officers, one traffic warden arrested for using NURTW officials to extort money from motorists in Lagos




 
The X Squad unit of the Lagos state police command have arrested nine (9) policemen and a Senior Traffic Warden alongside two (2) of their accomplices popularly as known as 'Camp Boys' or 'Antelopes' for extorting money from motorists in the state. A statement released by the office of the state's police commissioner, Edgal Imohimi, says the erring police officers were arrested between September 1 to 18, 2017.
One of the Camp boys, identified as Taofik Ismaila was arrested along Ikotun road on September 8th, along with some unscrupulous policemen, who were caught extorting money from innocent motorists.
Similarly, the X-Squad unit also arrested one Stephen Nwafor along Igando road with some erring policemen caught collecting money from unsuspecting motorists.
The erring policemen are presently undergoing departmental orderly room trial to ensure a total purging of the bad eggs, while their civilian accomplices are being charged to court for related offences.
The Commissioner of Police has directed that the Divisional Police Officers, DPOs and their Divisional Traffic counterparts of the affected areas be issued a query for lack of supervision and disobedience to lawful orders.
The Commissioner of police has also warned the executives and members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to warn their members from being used by unscrupulous policemen as tools and agents of extortion.
