
"The Wedding Party 2," a sequel to the highest grossing Nollywood movie, will probably debut in 15 territories.
According to the Group Executive Director/COO FilmOne, Moses Babatope, the movie is aiming to be released in 15 territories when it makes its debut later this year.
He said this while speaking to This Day about Nollywood movies getting an international theatrical release.
"Yes,
it’s already happening. We are releasing films in Ghana, Kenya, Uganda,
Tanzania, South Africa, UK, France and the US already," he said.
"The
Wedding Party 2 is aiming to be released in fifteen territories later
this year. AY’s 10 Days in Sun City will be released in about 10
territories at the end of its cinema run."
"Our
films are on Netflix, and very soon you will see them on I-tunes,
Amazon and Google Play. Our films are being screened on at least 15
international airlines."
Babatope recently said that the Nigerian film industry is expected to generate 40% of the 5 billion naira that would be made at the Nigerian box office by the end of 2017.
He shared the exciting news at the Lagos premiere of the comedy movie, "My Wife and I."
The sequel stars Patience Ozokwor, Sola Sobowale, Omoni Oboli, Seyi Law, Chugurl Daniella Down, RMD, Ireti Doyle, Ali Baba, Ikechukwu the Rapper, Enyinna Nwigwe, Saka among others.
It follows the romance between Nonso Onwuka (Enyinna Nwigwe) and Deirdre (Daniella Down), the bridesmaid from London.
The
film is produced by ELFIKE Film Collective, a partnership of EbonyLife
Films, FilmOne Distribution, Inkblot Productions and Koga Studios.
Directed by Niyi Akinmolayan, the sequel is expected to debut in cinemas on December 10, 2017.
