Pogba wins Europa League Player of The Year

Manchester United’s Paul Pogba has been named the 2016/17 Europa League Player of the Season for his part in steering the Reds to the trophy.
The 24-year-old Frenchman pipped out his fellow United team-mates Zlatan Ibrahimović and Henrikh Mkhitaryan to win the award, which was handed out for the first time at the draw for this season’s Europa League in Monaco.
Pogba was unable to receive his award in person at the ceremony and was handed the award by UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin earlier on in the week.

After receiving the award, Pogba said that he hoped this season would be as good as the last one:
Thank you. I’m really honoured to be the first to win the best player for UEFA Europa League. Hopefully this season will be as good as last season – let’s see!
Having made a world-record return to Manchester from Juventus last summer, Pogba stamped his mark in domestic and European competition, helping the Reds lift the Community Shield, EFL Cup and Europa League.

In Europe, Pogba assisted one goal and scored three, including the opener in United’s 2-0 victory over Ajax in the final in Stockholm, which completed the Reds’ trophy cabinet in all competitions.
The voting jury for the award was composed of the coaches of the 48 clubs in last season’s Europa League group stage, together with 55 journalists selected by the European Sports Media (ESM) group, representing each of UEFA’s associations.
