No 'welcome party' for silver-winning wrestler and her teammates

After winning silver at the World Wrestling Championship in Paris, Adekuoroye Odunayo and the Nigerian Wrestling Team were not received by any official from the Ministry of Sports when they arrived the country on Monday, August 28.

Odunayo on Wednesday, August 23 fought Cadet world champions Okuno Haruna of Japan in the final of the 55kg women category where she lost and finished as the silver winner.

Her silver medal was the first won by a Nigerian in the history of the World Wrestling Championship.
Despite her achievement and that of other wrestlers in Team Nigeria, they were not received by the Ministry of Sports when they arrived in Nigeria.
The team arrived the Murtala Mohammed Airport at about 1 pm on Monday but were received by only the journalists.

No official of the sports ministry was present.
This is not the first time Nigerian wrestlers have been ignored by the sports ministry after a championship.
Back in April 2017 and after winning eight gold medals and two silver medals at the African Wrestling Championship, Team Nigeria wrestlers were not received by any official from the sports ministry when they returned from Marrakech, Morocco.
