Mikel Obi, other Super Eagles players wear shirts with ‘stay strong Carl’ to press conference

Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi and a host of players paid tribute to goalkeeper Carl Ikeme who is currently battling acute leukaemia.

Super Eagles goalkeeper Ikeme is out for an extended time following his acute leukaemia diagnosis earlier in the summer.

Ahead of the game against Cameroon, Captain Mikel led Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Wilfred Ndidi, Leon Balogun and Anthony Nwakaeme to the press conference all wearing shirts with ‘stay strong Carl’.

Super Eagles boss Gernot Rohr was also with them and revealed that the Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. goalkeeper is in the mind of his players.
We are thinking of Carl, he is in the mind of the players, they are willing to fight and win this game for him,” Rohr told Pulse Sports at the press conference.

Carl was diagnosed with acute leukaemia after the player returned some abnormal blood test during his pre-season testing in July.

The 31-year-old immediately started a course of chemotherapy which will keep him out of an extended time.
The goalkeeper received massive support from world football following the announcement of his diagnosis
